National Engineers
Week
Since 2001,
Empirehouse's efforts with CSI and the National Engineer's Week program has
brought local 6th grade students a heightened awareness of the role that engineers play in
our everyday lives. This program helps to encourage young students to consider
opportunities and possible careers in the various fields of engineering. By teaching the basic principles of
compression and tension with simple every-day examples, students put what
they've learned in the classroom into a building exercise as they create their
own geodesic domes from non-traditional building materials - gumdrops and
toothpicks! Over the past 7 years, the program has grown to a full day event,
teaching on the average of 200 6th grade students each year.
