Alxandria High School curtainwall interior

The 280,000-square-foot high school offers two three-story academic wings and features 36 classrooms, 12 flexible learning spaces for small and large groups, science labs, technology/engineering lab, art rooms, a media center, and special education classrooms. The facility also includes athletic fields, a stadium, an activities wing, a three-station gymnasium, a performing arts wing, and a 1,000-seat auditorium for student learning and community events and gatherings.

Alxandria High School

The Alexandria Area High School is one of the most innovative educational facilities built in Minnesota. Empirehouse is proud to have been awarded the glazing contract for this 21st-century educational facility where our glass and glazing have aided in producing a light-filled and transparent space that fosters learning and collaboration.

The Alexandria Area High School glass, glazing and fabrication scope includes:

  • Exterior scope includes 5,500 square feet of high thermal performance operable windows with custom interior and exterior aluminum panning
  • Custom panning spans over 16,000 square feet of single-span and high-span aluminum pressure-wall framing
  • Interior scope includes 6,000 square feet of standard aluminum storefront borrowed lite framing with insulated glass
  • Seventy-six thermal and non-thermal door leaves with custom institutional hardware

Alxandria High School Eat Meet Greet Area

The student coined “Eat-Meet-Greet” area draws in daylight through scaling curtainwall. Surrounding glass railing and storefront provide transparency for an open and contemporary feel.

The interior scope includes 6,000 square feet of standard aluminum storefront borrowed lite framing with insulated glass which accommodates sound control requirements and carries the neutral anodized finish from exterior facade to interior common spaces.

A prominent interior glazing design element for this project: Nearly 1,100 lineal feet of custom fabricated, post-supported glass railing system with a brushed stainless steel finish. Challenged by uneven slab and mounting conditions, Empirehouse overcame these issues and realized the Owner’s vision to create a modern aesthetic for this educational facility of the future.

Alexandria High School doors

Empirehouse employed their state-of-the-art Elumatic CNC milling station to fabricate seventy-six thermal and non-thermal door leaves with custom institutional hardware instead of procuring pre-fabricated doors through an aluminum vendor.  This strategy saved considerable time to help us meet an aggressive schedule.
