Empirehouse is proud to be the Architectural Glass and Glazing Contractor for the AVI Systems office expansion and redesign, working with Greiner Construction and Perkins + Will architect. The multi-colored sliding glass walls installed by Empirehouse compliment this modern space that will be used for technology training and testing, as well as corporate offices.
Empirehouse entered into early design development with Greiner Construction and assisted with cost and logistics in the overall scope of the work to bring the project into budget with glass selection and sizing.
Complex film design application and glazing installation
To achieve the multi-colored glass design, clear tempered glass units were treated with one or two layers of colored film which were applied to each side of the glass before installation. Once applied Empirehouse mocked up and proposed an innovative glazing idea to the Design Team to glaze the large film-coated glass units using CRL Glaze-in-Gasket at the glass-to-glass butt joints instead of clear silicone that reacted to the film.
After design approval, the Empirehouse Glazing Team was hard at work moving and setting five tons of large tempered glass units by hand—as large as 42″ x 120.” Not only did the CRL Glaze-in-Gasket look aesthetically pleasing, it also proved to be a more time-efficient installation method.
In addition to the glass units, the Glazing Team installed two 128″ x 50″ vanity mirrors with only a 1/8″ amount of wiggle room space on the top, sides and bottom to negotiate with.
Communication and meeting the schedule
To achieve the schedule Empirehouse maintained good communication with the General Contractor for material lead times early on, confirmed material delivery with our suppliers, and coordinated with other trades on site.
