Fort Snelling Visitor Center Combines Old With New
In the spring of 2007, Empirehouse and Sheehy Construction were awarded the Fort Snelling National Cemetery project. This project consists of three buildings, with the main attraction being the visitor center.
The visitor center utilizes two unique products that create an aesthetic that is both inviting to the guest, and respectful of its surroundings. The structure consists of 360 square feet of all glass entrance system by Oldcastle, and 270 square feet of a monolithic curved glass wall supported with glass fins. The visitor center is completely transparent and gives off a welcoming feel both day and night. The radius glass used in this project was provided by Pilkington of St. Helens, England. Since the glass was imported, it created a need for all details to be finalized prior to manufacturing and shipment. With the help of W & W Glass in New York, Pilkington Planar’s North American representative, we were able to resolve discrepancies and complete the visitor center without issue.
Fort Snelling National Cemetery is open to the public and the new Visitor Center is scheduled to open in September. The visitor center is truly a great display of Empirehouse’s quality workmanship and you are encouraged to visit this beautiful new facility.
